Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip and/or knee is a common chronic condition of the joints and is characterized by the loss of cartilage (the lining over the bones that gives a cushioning effect). This leads to pain and can impact mobility. Knee and hip pain due to OA is common, and knee osteoarthritis (sometimes abbreviated as KOA) is one of the most common types of osteoarthritis.
