All clinical trials include specific inclusion criteria (that must be met for someone to be potentially suitable for the trial) and exclusion criteria (which means someone is not suitable for participating in the trial). Interested individuals should carefully review these basic requirements before taking the online pre-screener questionnaire.



To be eligible to participate, individuals must, at a minimum:

  1. Be 18 years or older.
  2. Have a diagnosis of osteoarthritis (OA) in the knee and/or hip joint.
  3. Experience moderate to severe pain in affected knee and/or hip.
  4. Have tried different types of pain medications but are still experiencing chronic pain due to hip and/or knee OA, or unable to take current pain medicines. These other medications include:
    1. Paracetamol/acetaminophen.
    2. At least 1 opioid (e.g., codeine, tramadol) or you are unwilling to take an opioid pain medicine
  5. Currently be using a stable dose of NSAID (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen).
  6. Maintain current activity and exercise levels throughout the clinical research study
  7. Discontinue specific medications in order to take the investigational study drug or rescue medication.
  8. Attend all study visits including follow-up visits at the study center.
  9. Understand and complete study-related questionnaires
